If you’re looking for noncredit professional training, California Apprenticeship Coordinators Association offers culinary & pastry-cook apprenticeship training leading to certificates, while San Francisco Baking Institute SFBI awards certificates in several baking and confectionery disciplines. If you want to study for college credit, San Francisco State University SFSU grants certificates in hospitality management; City College of San Francisco CCSF awards associate degrees in culinary arts, food-service management, and hotel management; and University of San Francisco USF grants bachelors degrees in hospitality-industry management. For credit education with some additional cachet, California Culinary Academy offers certificates in baking & pastry arts and associate degrees in Le Cordon Bleu culinary arts and Le Cordon Bleu hospitality & restaurant management.
From 2002 to 2012, California’s Employment Development Department expects employment in the San Francisco metro area to grow by 12.5% for chefs and head cooks, 10.5% for other restaurant cooks, 11.9% for first-line food prep/serving managers, 11.5% for other food prep/serving managers, 9.7% for food-service managers, 2.5% for bartenders, 2.8% for bakers, 8.5% for restaurant hosts and hostesses, and 4.2% for concierges.
